15-year-old April Alderton was carrying her 10-week-old Jack Russell puppy, Sandy, through Priory Park in St. Neots when she put the dog down for a moment. It wandered over to a group of hooded yobs, wagging its tail as it went.
One of the yobs then deliberately stamped on the dog's head, fracturing its skull. April attempted to give the puppy mouth-to-mouth in a bid to revive it and took it to the vets. It was however too late and the puppy died of its injuries.
April was found sobbing on a kerb after the attack by her mother, Loretta. The puppy was bought for April to help with her ADHD and was described as very well behaved and small enough to fit in a coffee cup. The police and RSPCA are investigating.
