Obama: Flag-Draped Coffins From Afghanistan Will Affect ´How I See These Conflicts´

President Obama said that the sight of 18 flag-draped coffins, the remains of Americans killed in the war in Afghanistan this week, can't help but affect his decision on whether to send more troops into the conflict.

"It was a sobering reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices that our young men and women in uniform are engaging in every single day, not only our troops but their families as well," Obama said, reflecting on a surprise trip to Dover Air Force Base.

Obama overturned an 18-year ban on coverage of the return of Americans' remains to Dover, letting families decide if the media or the Pentagon can record the event. Nearly two-thirds have allowed the media, and even more have allowed the Pentagon.

  Yes Mr. President

You say it will affect how you see these conflicts, but will affect the decisions you make on these conflicts?

I doubt very seriously that you have the authority, Mr.President, to make any independent decision on these conflicts.

  Joke of the day:

"President Obama said that the sight of 18 flag-draped coffins...can´t help but affect his decision on whether to send more troops into the conflict."

Are you kidding me? What "decision"?
This is another Obamanation!

Rather than take the advice of those he appointed to lead and report on the war effort, he has once again made himself beholden to the Looney Left and their defeatist agendas.

This month was the deadliest month for our troops in Afghanistan --- yes, deadlier than when Bush was in office. Instead of taking swift action to correct this, Obama is off playing golf, flying to Europe to persuade the Olympic committee, battling with Humana and insurance companies, and waging war against critical American media.

It’s no wonder Fox is so critical of this “president”! He spends two days trying to get the Olympics to Chicago, but only spends 25-minutes with Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who heads the war effort in Afghanistan. Where are his priorities?

Additionally, he said today that he is “considering” sending more troops… but not the number McChrystal has deemed necessary to win the war.
The press is calling Obama’s “consideration” the “McChrystal Light” plan.

Obama just needs to bring our boys home. He’s going to sit and spin on this thumbs while politicizing this war and attempting to pacify his liberal base. Meanwhile, our boys are dying because of his political showboating and ineffectiveness as a commander.

  Well

It *is* Obama´s decision; he´s the commander in chief of U.S. armed forces. The buck stops ... there.

I´m just reassured to think that he´s considering the human cost of this ill-advised misadventure before he decides to sacrifice any more American soldiers´ lives.

  I doubt he cares

For these elitist people like him, the soldiers are just pawns on a chessboard. All his hollow speeches are just for the masses.

Theoretically it is true what you say, but US-History has shown that if a president takes the wrong decisions, it can be very "unhealthy" for him. I think he refereed to that.

As for troops being pawns to Obama, just remember who decided there were "better´ wars to be starting instead of finishing there to begin with. We should have been done in Afghanistan long before Bush was out of office. Instead he went off on other adventures.

  Maybe

Maybe at some point a new UK administration might take some notice publicly too. I agree, it´s hollow words from a politician right now, but those over here don´t even seem to even acknowledge it. Blair´s religious war was planned to be fought regardless of cost to human life. Over here they don´t even seem to see it.

Acknowledging that it´s happening, it´s wrong and it´s unpleasant might be the first step in the long process of understanding how bad war actually is. We can only hope that those in charge stop moving the pieces and start thinking instead. Let´s hope.

WOW Just freaking WOW. This comes from someone who was fond of calling other people out for demanding the same thing from Bush. Not just you, CA, but the amount of hawks I have seen flip-flop from ´their´ President to the current President is almost laughable. Those that have been against the conflicts/wars/whatever name you give to them from the beginning have got to be laughing at all those hardcore Hawks that called those against the war every name they could are now saying the above.

Ben- I give you credit for saying what I had said about Bush and I was told it didn´t mean anything, that is that the buck stops there. The Preisdent is, was and always will be the one that sits where the buck stops. Thank you for not trying to pass that buck like the last presidents defenders did.

as for the summary and what Obama said I can only hope that he truly keeps the memories of those men and women inside those coffins because of something the previous administration started and that he has given his word that he will end.

Without a doubt, you would be reasurred Ben. If he said you were an AHole you would still be reasurred he had his reason and you would agree it was surely something you said or done that caused him to say it.
Did it ever occur to you that Maybe just maybe if he took the advice from the General he appointed (who forgot more then Obama could ever know) and acted like the President of the US instead of some confused little pussy we could save a lot more of the soldiers that are already there and he wouldn´t have to be staring at 18 flagged coffins due to his inability to make a decision. Moron´s know you either shit or get off the pot. He is leaving our military in harms way. That is wrong. Ben, it doesn´t matter to you what Obama does you agree with him. You´re never going to become his butt buddy just an ass wipe, open your eyes and look around you.

Next time you open your mouth to bash Bush remember that.

What the hell is wrong with you? All I say is that I´m glad the president seems to be considering the human cost of the war, and suddenly I´m gay for Obama, huh?

  where´s the anti war movement?

What happened? Where´d it go?

It seems to have been completely quashed by Obama´s inauguration. This is despite the fact that Obama´s foreign policy in our current wars (and the expanding war into Pakistan) rivals that of Bush.

It´s no surprise that Obama´s ´defense´ (aka imperialism) budget is on par with Bush´s as well.

Yes We Can have a war-mongering rhetoric spewing president on either side of the aisle. Yes We Can!

Don´t worry He will keep the memories of those men and women who have died for a long time. Hell, He has saved room for more memories of those that will be lost in the future.

When will these gained memories end? I doubt in 4 even 8 years. Its not like there is something he could do about it.

All the people out here voted for him because the war was #1 & he was "anti-war".

Bwaaahahahahyahahaaaaaa!

"It is where the mujahideen defeated the other superpower," said the former CIA chief, referring to the Soviet defeat in the 1980s at the hands of Islamist militants.

The al-Qaeda leaders believe "they now have the ability to defeat a second superpower",
http://www.sbs.com.au/ Russians said exactly that to USA, when US, invaded Afghanistan.
It has been 8 years of killing and dying. I really think, USA need to see beyond it´s imperialistic agenda. Soldiers dying for a War that has crippled America and you´d think such, would be empirical for Obama. Body bags i.e.

If you can´t find an anti-war movement, you must not be looking too closely. Here´s a clue: Code Pink.

"All the people out here voted for him because the war was #1 & he was "anti-war"."

Not really. Obama actually campaigned on ending the war in Iraq but intensifying the war in Afghanistan; he actually used a lot of rah-rah language about finding the perpetrators of 9/11 and whatnot during his campaign.

Vhan-"All the people out here voted for him because the war was #1 & he was "anti-war"."

Do you really want to stand behind this 100%? I think you should stop and look at what he said regarding Iraq and Afghanistan for one thing. I also wouldn´t put any bets on the ´types´ of people that voted for Obama. No one I know personally voted for Obama because of the anti-war stand. Most of my family is conservative as you all have heard and yet almost every one of them, including vets from S. Korea, Vietnam up to the current mess voted for Obama, a few of them lifetime Republicans and not one of them did it because of the war.

Even when Bush said he was starting to withdraw troops and everyone was complaining that it was taking too long, my fine conservative friends reminded the sneaky liberal(because if you were against Bush you were a liberal) that you can not just simply pull out, but he would be setting a time table for the soldiers to be out of Iraq. This of course never meant the ones that were going to stay at the GWBush embassay.

"Don´t worry He will keep the memories of those men and women who have died for a long time. Hell, He has saved room for more memories of those that will be lost in the future."

Oh good so he will carry the memories longer than Bush did, which was usually when he read a name of a soldiers family apologized for their loss and sent them a letter that he didn´t even had the damn decency to sign and not just print a copy out after changing a few select parts. Imagine how upsetting it was for a mom to get a half of a corect letter stating their daughter had died while he was serving in(not where she was) and his 2 small children, she wasn´t a mother..you get the point.

CArnold-"Obama just needs to bring our boys home. He’s going to sit and spin on this thumbs while politicizing this war and attempting to pacify his liberal base. Meanwhile, our boys are dying because of his political showboating and ineffectiveness as a commander."

This sounds almost word for word like people were saying for 8 years, except Bush was the one playing with his toy soldiers in the Oval office while Cheney and Daddy discussed the next move. In fact when people said this about Bush they were called Un-American and a few of them were told if they didn´t like it to leave. I am very glad to not have seen very little ignorance like that returned. I do wonder what happened to all the hawks that were preening their feathers for nearly 8 years?
