Former US President George W Bush, who instigated the current US presence in Afghanistan, has warned that “the world would face serious threats” if the Taliban and al Qaida were allowed to retake the war-torn country.
Speaking at a conference in New Delhi, Bush told those attending: “The mission in Afghanistan has been long and difficult and costly, but I believe it is necessary for stability and peace,” adding, “This region and the world would face serious threats.”
So far, this year has been the deadliest for international and US forces in the country since the beginning of the conflict, which began in 2001.
