Mechanic Accused of Disabling Cars so He Could Charge Owners to Repair Them

Tennessee: 41-year-old Christopher Walls has been charged with driving on a revoked license and theft under $500 for allegedly disabling vehicles and then coming to the 'rescue' of the stranded owners for a fee of between $40 and $200.

Two women reported suspicious activity to the police after he fixed a starter problem for them. When police discovered him he had just fixed another starter problem for someone else and was in possession of cut wire and cash he couldn't explain.

Police found record of a large number of repairs in a receipt book and suspect that more people may have been scammed by Walls. They are calling for any members of the public who believe they may have been a victim of such a crime to contact them.

  Since When

"Police said Walls had $341 in cash he could not account for"

Since when do you have to account for the money you carry in your pocket?

beltman- It is done everyday sadly. They can suspect you were dealing drugs and if the K-9 hits on it you can be charged with a crime and they keep your money since it was from an illegal exchange.

That´s not to say all cops or even all forces do this, some do and often cash will have some drugs on it even if you aren´t dealing. I think it was Ben that posted a story about that.

The guy that is suspected of doing this, if he did do it, is one reason why people are so leery of anything most responsible auto shops find wrong. I admit if anyone other than the shop that does work on my parents or our vehicles were to give me an estimate I would wonder if they were trying to pad the bill.
