Delaware: US Vice-President Joe Biden has announced that the closed General Motors Boxwood assembly plant in Wilmington will be reopened by California-based manufacturer Fisker Automotive to build energy-efficient hybrid vehicles.
Last month a $528.7 million government loan was granted to Fisker Automotive for development of plug-in hybrids. More than half of that will be spent on the plant. By 2014 the company plans to be producing 75,000-100,000 hybrids annually.
"While some wanted to write off America's auto industry, we said no... We understood a new chapter had to be written, a new chapter in which we strengthen American manufacturing by investing in innovation," said Biden.
