Marion Walker has become the second member of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs to resign after the chief drugs adviser to the government was sacked by Alan Johnson, the British Home Secretary.
Prof Nutt was sacked after she said the government’s change of cannabis to Class B was purely for political gain, and she also said that alcohol and nicotine were more dangerous and harmful than cannabis. Dr Les King resigned after Nutt’s sacking.
Johnson said Nutt was sacked for "crossing the line between offering advice and then campaigning against the government on political decisions and was wrong on cannabis." Dr King believes the drug advisory should be separated from government.
