Motorcyclist Fined for Doing 383 Mph

Italy: 26-year-old Paolo Turina is appealing against a £200 speed camera fine that alleged that he was traveling at 383 miles per hour on his motorbike. Police suspect that the problem is not the camera but rather botched data entry.

Turina says that if he could pull the sort of speed listed on his fine on his motorbike he would be demolishing Valentino Rossi in the MotoGP. "What did they think they were clocking - a jet fighter?" he asked.

"If the court rules the fine will stand then I'm going to send it to the Guinness Book of Records - after all if the court says its true then I should get the credit for this remarkable feat," said Turina.

Can hold on doing that fast, I wounder if anyone checks the outrages speeds when the tickets go out, a Top Fuel car top speed in the 1/4 mile is about 321 MPH. There has to be an alarm that goes off when a camera clocks someone at this speed, if not, there should be. No car on the road can go that fast.

  @speed

Mythbusters already proved that those speed trap camera/radar stations either don´t detect or are unable to capture a picture of a vehicle moving more than around 200mph.

  Huh.

I´m a little surprised that a ticket for that speed isn´t more, personally. I got a 20 over for almost US$300.

NICE JOB POLICE PEOPLE. BETCHA SPEND MORE TIME TESTING YOUR TAZERS THAN OTHER EQUIPMENT.

  not only Mythbusters,

A British show called Top Gear managed to beat a speed camera in a TVR, which is a car.

Clearly an error on the camera´s part.

That´s a pretty stupid comment. Do you spend time at the office checking YOUR hardware for malfunctions? No! Of course not, you call tech support. But that´s assuming you´re not some dumb hick farmer somewhere. And in that case, you probably do fix and inspect all of your equipment. Good for you, "Farmer in the Dell".

  Ummm

Nearly 400 mph? I think they meant kilometers per hour?

I´m unsure how British show Top Gear proves that this wasn´t a data entry error.

Given that the story has been written using British currency it seems logical that they would use mph, as that is usually how we measure speed here (outside of the science lab anyway).

Also the point is that it is an outrageous speed to be fined for doing since the bike obviously isn´t capable of reaching that speed.

  mythbusters!!! seriously

you can´t use mythbusters as a valid source of data. they are not engineers nor do they use any atcually scientific data or come to any real conclusions about anything. the show is simply an observation for you to draw a conclusion from but more often than not the observations do not show more than one method of doing something which everyone knows is not adequate testing of any theory.
