Hard Rock Gambler not Paid for $166 Million Jackpot

A gambler playing slots at a Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, Florida, was seeing dollar signs - 166 million of them - when he struck it rich playing a $4 slot machine this past Sunday. The problem was that the machine had malfunctioned.

After casino workers deliberated, they broke the news to the frenzied man that the machine had malfunctioned and that the maximum jackpot payout was only $90,000. To make matters worse, casino officials later stated they would pay the man nothing at all.

It seems in the end, however, after much expected strife over the matter, that there was a settlement reached between the parties for an undisclosed amount, guessed to be less than $90,000.

  For what it´s worth.
Before you all get your knickers in a bunch. EVERY slot machine in the U.S. MUST contain a sticker or plaque posted somewhere on it that if the machine malfunctions then the payout is void. (Or something VERY similar )

They are run by software now
it wouldnt be hard to make any major win look like a ´malfunction´. The law should stand that they have to pay it out, if they cant maintain their machines good enough thats not the punters fault.

  Payouts and machine settings
 djcll6121- Very good point.

@general- They have these 5 Card Draw poker machines in many of the bars in town. They have nickel or quarter machines and above every machine there is a sign that says "For entertainment only!" It makes it look legal and if a stranger was to come in and hit some jackpot and take the credits out they would point to that sign and say "Sorry we don´t pay out, it is just for entertainment." Yet the regular sitting next to him has put about $20 in the machine and takes it out with 400 credits, which is really $100 cash they can either get from the bartender then and there or come back in the morning depending on where you play.

Money is passing over the machines and if the bar doesn´t owe the machine the person leasing it to them will split the money. What many of them tell you is that there is no way to ´fix or set´ the machines, that is crap! The two owners will decide if they will tighten or losen it that week so people won´t get tired of losing and give up, or there are too many winners and there is no money being made.

I remember watching a CSI way back when it first started and it was was talking about how number counters were considered cheating in Las Vegas and they could be arrested for it. Someone then said something along the line of you should know better than to cheat a Casino. So someone that knows how the game is played is a cheat since they wouldn´t be able to take his money. I think this pretty much proves that the Casino´s have no intention of anyone winning those jackpots, there is no way to verify by a 3rd party that is an uninterested party. I think I would have went to court and let the jury decided if I was a winner of 166 mil like the machine said, 90thousand that they workers threw out into the open, or nothing.
