Glow Stick Fluid Tops List of Halloween Poison Control Calls

According to the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center, the most popular subject of discussion from callers on Halloween wasn't ingesting candy, but glow stick fluid. 43 calls were received, with victims ranging from 10 months to 45 years.

One Poison Control official said, "While it is an irritant, it is not something you need to go to the emergency room for." Glow sticks contain hydrogen peroxide in a small glass cylinder which is broken to make an alcohol mix, starting the reaction.

  so what
 45 year old´s are chewing on glow sticks until they break in their mouths, and then they swallowed the glowing goo? Well, if it was in CO, it must have been some drugged up neo-hippies.

 You know, I was at a halloween store getting some glitter and pink hair spray paint for my son (yes, my son, he was cute!) and I saw those glow sticks attached to a necklace and I thought it would be really cute. But I decided against it because I thought he might eat it. Common sense parents...your kids like to stick stuff in their mouths. Especially neon shiney things, I´m sure.

As for the 45 year old....jeebus help us all.

  Being 45 years old
 I´ve never thought "Hey, I´d like to stick a glowing thing in my mouth and ingest its contents. That would be a good idea."

If you do decide to do this, you may not need to go to the ER for the contents, but you definitely should go for being so stupid you might forget to breathe if not constantly reminded.

  Silly
 I don´t know about anyone else, but there was a lot of glowing accesories for sale here this year. I actually mentioned to my girls about the one outfit which had glowing hoop earrings that it was going to be chewed on by toddlers.

  I´ve cut them open
 when I was a teen my friends and I would sling the fluid around our camping area.it looked cool kind of like the alien blood in the movie predator.

  Hmm
 They don´t mention it, but wouldn´t the shards of the glass capsule be just a tad irritating if you ingested them?

  @Caution
 Yeah, but it´s the poison and drug center....small bits of glass don´t qualify as either so the small bits of glass in the stomach are of no concern to them. Plus, is there anything you can do if you consume tiny bits of broken glass? An old method of getting rid of unwanted inmates was to grind up glass and put it in their food.
