First Hotel in Space to Open in 2012?

Despite questions from critics over their funding and time frame Galactic Suite Space Resort insists that they are on track to open a Hotel orbiting earth at an altitude of 450km and a speed of 30,000km/h by 2012.

For 3 million euros a guest will be able to stay in the space hotel for three nights. Eight weeks of training is required and is included in the price, as is the trip there and back in a Russian rocket.

The hotel will be able to house four guests and the two rocket pilots initially. While guests would not have staff looking after them they would get to see 15 sunrises and would go right around the earth every 1 hour, 20 minutes.

  um, wow

if they succeed this, this will bring a whole new research for scientists to see how humans react and adjust to space living.... when the world ends, only the rich will be able to escape

  Two

months of training looks to be hard, the guests have to be healthy, i think many rich people will be interested in that.

  Just great

They will set up a space hotel just in time for the end of the world. At least the space tourists will be able to live a little longer than the rest of us.

  Yeah, right

This company hasn´t demonstrated a single piece of hardware yet, haven´t secured any launch vehicles or pilots and they want to be ready in 3 years?? Okay...sure.

  I think

They are just trying to get some venture capitalists to fund their hooker and dug habits for a few years then file for bankruptcy.

  @ Athrill

tripping in space sounds like a bad idea

  Nice

So if this was to happen there would be 6 humans alive at the end of the world, just around the time that the owners of Galactic Suite take the Inaugural flight themselves.

  I reserve

December 11th - 13th for my stay in space. Ha, I can´t because apparantly those dates are already reserved. Makes me think this isn´t so much a hotel venture as a billionaires plan to either have a hotel or an escape from catastrophe.

  question

Was just wondering...what law prevails up there ? If someone were murdered in that hotel for example, what jurisdiction would it fall under?

  I WAS REALLY EXCITED!!!

...and then I read, "Russian Rocket".

Nevermind. :(

  @veX

Whats wrong with russian rockets?

 by: evilrat   11/07/2009 07:21 PM
  @vex

Russian rockets and spacecraft are extremely reliable. They will be the only access to the space station after the shuttle fleet is sacked. Maybe the ISS will be the 2012 ´hotel´ in space. That´s the only way they can pay for it any longer.

  honestly...

if this really is an attempt to avoid disaster by some rich fokls, and if the world will really end on 12/12/2012...they aren´t really that far away from earth....if there is a big boom....they´re still screwed, which kind of makes me smile inside.
