Missing Infant Found Alive, Hidden Under Bed

Police in the small Florida town of Chipley have found an infant that has been missing for five days. The child's mother, babysitter, and babysitter's husband are all expected to be charged in the disapearance.

On Saturday, Chrystina Lynn Mercer and her husband reported to police that their 7-month-old infant was missing. Yesterday, the child was found hidden in a box under the babysitter's bed. It appeared that the child had been cared for.

Police have said that they will release details of the investigation soon. They also said that the child's father apparently was not involved in the incident.

  What a case.
Is this true that the baby sitter had her own child went missing in 1987? In exactly the same way.

I just read this, and wondered if it were true allegedly her child is still missing.

Her own child go missing. I meant.
If this is true did she claim money for this at all. Maybe she was directing this couple in the same way.

  @Jane
that´s actually an updated source article, so I´m not sure. Although, the parents were investigated for child abuse shortly after the infants birth, so it sounds like this group of people has some pretty serious issues.

If the father really had nothing to do with it, though, I feel really bad for him.

the details are still unclear, but it looks like maybe they were trying to kidnap the child. I don´t know if they were trying to get money out of the father, or maybe the babysitter wanted the child for herself, or maybe they are all just very crazy.

I´ll try to post an update as information becomes more available.

  wouldn´t be a surprise if
this is a variant of the infamous balloon boy incident. sad how easily ppl can get worldwide media attention, literally become "stars" overnight, and in many cases become wealthy by manipulating the public with such devious pranks. now everyone has to question such things, which is also rather pathetic.

  UPDATE
Alright, try to keep up with all of this:

The mother (Mercer) willfully gave the baby to the babysitter (Baker). Mercer had alleged that her husband often took the baby and smoked cigarettes and pot in front of the baby. Mercer had contacted the Governor´s office less than two weeks after the baby´s birth concerning child abuse by her husband. State authorities investigated the couple numerous times and noted that both parents smoked pot, and the house was dirty, but the child was in no immediate harm. An indepedant physician also confirmed that the baby was healthy and in no immediate danger. It is still unclear why Mercer gave Baker the baby, but both women have been given numerous charges.

The babysitter´s husband was also arrested, he has since been released. Police would not rule out charges against him.

The baby´s father still appears innocent.

Baker, the babysitter, was involved in another case in South Carolina in 1987. Her 3 year old step son went missing and has never been found. She and her husband were extradited in 2000 to South Carolina, but a grand jury failed to find sufficient evidence of foul play. The babysitter did spend time in jail when her step son went missing. During the investigation into the missing boy, a 6 year old girl living with Baker was found to have been beaten badly. She received 10 years, but was released after 80 days.

I´m sure this is just going to get weirder.... Luckily the baby is OK.

  Crazy People
So they are going to attempt to use the fact that the father of the infant was negligent so they were hiding the baby for its own good. Nevermind that they could have went to CPS and put an official complaint in. The Governors office isn´t the proper place to start a case at. I hope the three of them are charged with filing a false report and are held responsible for all of the costs for the search.
