Italy: Ethnologist Franco Crevatin and cosmetics history expert Stefano Anselmo claim that they have discovered a hidden 'inner statue' inside the 3,400-year-old bust of Queen Nefertiti using a cat scan.
The hidden statue's face has less pronounced cheekbones, shallower eyes, an imperfect nose, and laugh lines near the mouth. It is thought that it is much closer in appearance to what Nefertiti actually looked like than the finished sculpture.
The pair have created a computer image of the new face. "Reproducing the face of a queen who is surrounded by such mystery required months of painstaking, detailed work," said Crevatin.
