UK: Players from the Wigan Athletic football club have offered to give fans their money back for tickets after a humiliating 9-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham. Only one side has suffered a heavier defeat in the history of the Premier League.
After going in at half time 1-0 down Wigan were destroyed in the second half, conceding eight goals including an own-goal. Manager Roberto Martinez looks set to survive the debacle with club owner Dave Whelan expressing complete faith in him.
"We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty," said defender Mario Melchiot.
