Girl Wears "Indecent" Skirt, Receives 50 Lashes

Last week in Khartoum, Sudan, a 16-year-old girl who is a Christian was punished with 50 lashes by authorities in the courtroom because she wore her skirt beneath the knee. Silvia Kashif is from southern Sudan.

She was confused with not knowing what to wear in the capital. Islamic law does not allow indecent dresses. Lubna Hussein, a female journalist, was also sentenced to 40 lashes but it was reduced to a fine for wearing trousers, which is also an indecency.

Human rights campaigners are fighting for the change of the public morality laws.

I think public lashing is indecent, in fact it should be punished with public lashing, but then the people who perform the punishment will also be punished by yet more lashings, oh the fun we can have with religion.

  Shame ..

for these women, the idiots that enforce that law should be smacked in the face, and have a taste of their own medicine.

  Something stinks here

Of course my first thought is one of anger, I mean how dare they lash a 16 year old for wearing a skirt that falls below the knee?

Then I start wondering how did she get arrested, tried by a judge, lashed and let go all within 90 minutes? Then she went to bed and slept the whole day, only telling her family the next day. 50 lashes on her back, legs and hands and no one noticed them? I would tend to think that these weren´t light lashes. I am also curious as to why her arrest, trial and punishment was again so fast when there are backlogs of Indecency charges.

I could pluck apart the source as to some very suspicious events and reactions from this, which benefits a few groups who will be using this incident to push their agendas.

"Human rights campaigners are fighting for the change of the public morality."

that wont work... they need a cultural revolution, where people instead of being afraid of their government all together make the society they want by living as they want.... can´t arrest and lash an entire country worth of people, not without creating a violent uprising.

though i must say thats swift "justice".

Onward Into The Past - Predictable As Clockwork

Just a preview of that glorious day when religion will rule the world with love, brotherhood, peace and all those wonderful things we see every day.

It proves if we only had religion in the decadent west, the world would be as wonderful and blissful place to live as those countries without wars, evil, crime and government corruption like everyone else without religion. How could we be so blind and not see it?

Religion - Not just an idea - It´s the law - or else.

  The Darkness Monster

Religion did once rule the world.

It was called "The Dark Ages".

That´s why I´m so detetmined NOT to returned to those wondrful days when religion proved it was the answer to the world´s problems.

We mortals just aren´t worthy of such paradise.

LOL

Sardonic? More at cynical.

That poor girl is only one of billions of victims - and one of the lucky ones.

I´m just so used to hearing and seeing literature that claims that religion will solve all the ills of the world, but not seeing a single cure for anything in 4000+ years, except a cure for all the things they claim to represent.

When it comes to the examples department, they invariably lack credibility across the board. History and current reality deprives them of all bragging rights then and now.

Where religion does rule, I fail to see the social stability, love, peace and brotherhood and cures for all manner of diseases and countless other claims it makes. Where´s the beef? There are more bombs exploding in the streets and churches of religious countries than anywhere else on earth.

There´s no better way to say, "I love you!", than "BOOM!

All I see are constant fear, violence, threats of violence, oppression and a generally miserable quality of life that has nothing tangible to offer anyone who really does seek enjoyment in life, and least of all, basic human freedoms.

Fear of being beaten in the streets by "religious police", imprisoned or put to death over an opinion or even a haircut or showing your face in public, etc., are not the least inspiring. If that´s what a national religion is all about and what they want for the whole world, they can keep it. Whoever wants that life, deserves it!
