Police in Ljubljana, Slovenia, said Wednesday that a 52-year-old doctor died in a mauling attack involving three bull mastiffs he won back after they were going to be put down for seriously injuring someone walking by his house in 2006.
A national controversy broke out last June when the court sided with the owner´s legal appeals. An opposition party said that failure to stop the release of the dogs lands on the agriculture minister, and as a result should resign.
The attack occurred on Tuesday in the owner´s garden; by the time police arrived, he was already dead.
The dogs have since been put down.
