One of the most valuable domain names available on the Web, sex.com, is due to be put up for auction this week after DOM Partners LLC foreclosed on the Internet property. The lenders supported the purchase of the name for US$14 million 4 years ago.
The loan to Escom by DOM to buy the property has been in default for more than 12 months. Bidding for the domain name, which has been the cause of several lawsuits and spurned two books, will begin at US$1 million.
The former owner who sold the domain name to Escom in ´06 is none other than Gary Kremen, founder of Match.com. He registered for the sex.com domain in 1994.
