A new study has shown that women who indulge in one to two alcoholic beverages a day are 30% less likely to gain weight than their teetotaling counterparts. The research was conducted by the Brigham & Women´s Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Lu Wang, the study author, said: "Our study results showed that middle-age and older women who have normal body weight initially and consume light-to-moderate amounts of alcohol could maintain their drinking habits without gaining more weight..."
Some 19,220 women were followed over a 13-year period in order to conduct the study. Only women with the same kind of lifestyles were compared, and the group had very few heavy drinkers.
