3-Year-Old Girl Mistakes Gun for Wii Game Controller and Kills Herself
A toddler from Tennessee mistook a loaded gun for a Wii game controller and killed herself.
The gun belonged to her stepfather, who left the gun on the table. After shooting herself in the abdomen, she was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead later that night.
Cheyenne, as the girl is called, learned to use a gun with a Wii controller and played a game with it for days. "There´s little chance a 3-year-old would differentiate between the two," a Wilson County Sheriff told the press.
Its deceiving. Looking at the actual wii gun and the actual gun I can see how it was mistaken. But still . . .who leaves a loaded gun laying around with a 3 year old running about.
How do you leave a loaded firearm within reach of a 3 year old? Also, I thought that was why gun controllers were now made bright orange and stuff because of fear something like this might happen.
I know in the U.S. they are required to make toy guns with certain bright colors but you can buy them from places like China where there are no restrictions with color.
in TN about not allowing toy guns to look like real guns, i know here in NY we stopped selling realistic toy guns cause people would you use them for robberies.
but all in all the stepfather is a moron leaving a loaded gun out in the open, i mean i don´t have any kids and i still keep my guns and ammo in separate places
@CJ: Too late to beat himself stupid. He was/is already there. This is what gives responsible gun owners a bad name.
I´m puzzled as to why the mother did nothing. She was apparently only a few feet from the little girl. Not blaming her, just curious. The step-dad gets the title of ´King Idiot´ here.
a three year old child is a beautiful creature - innocent and full of life. The curious thing is this: why would he leave a loaded and cocked weapon (bullet in the chamber) on a table. Or that the child, who knew how to play the wii, would point it at her abdomen... a little fishy this story seems.
I think the dad shot the girl - possibly accidentally; possibly not.
Vant- If you feel like you need to be an asshole then do it another story. Making light of a 3-year-old being killed because of an ignorant dad/step-dad(the article says dad through most of it and stepdad once)couldn´t put his guns away properly is a bit much. But then again you pretty much admit you needed the attention today, finding a streetwalker might have been a better choice since she would have laughed with you for a rock or two.
General- The gun was on an end table, which is probably where they had or have the Wii gun sitting. For those that were questioning the color of the gun or safety marks...I can tell you didn´t open the article to see what the gun looks like. Unless it was a special gun attachment like I have for my Resident Evil games there was not any similarity to the real gun. I know the article said there was no way to tell the difference between the two so it might be yet another mistake from what looks like an article written by a first grader.
Having been part of the blood-thirsty crowds at one time there will no doubt be a modern day witch-hunt to somehow harm this man and to even mention the mother, who was near the child, but as the article says she was on the computer. I am guessing that the mom wasn´t looking right at her and that is why she did nothing. I do find the fact that the gun was taken out of the case and loaded because of a prowler a bit suspicious, but right now it is being ruled as an accident. It is a horrible and stupid accident, but we have the word accident for a reason.
Although the source photo shows a Wii gun that couldn´t possibly be confused with a real one, the link provided by aaxel21 ( http://kotaku.com/... )clearly shows how a real gun may have been mistaken for the Wii gun.
Thank you for the link. I admit I didn´t even see the link aaxel had given. So the article(not the summary) once again was so wrong it shows that this "reporter" needs to go back to class before naptime is over.
Buying the one online so it can be more of a "real" experience is understandable and there are tons of cheaply made accessories for the Wii. I can walk into Dollar General and walk out with a wheel, tennis racket, golf club, bat and other little goodies all for $5. You could easily bring it home and spray paint it any color you wish.
The gun I have is pretty self-evident of being fake compared to the link you shared.http://thenintendo.com/...
Gun are illegal where I live. I know of NO ONE here who even owns one - ´cept for the military and cops. Most security guards carry fakes if they have one at all.
However, I do have several BB guns (6mm plastic pellets) as do tens of thousands of others here. I often see little kids running around having gun fights.
Don´t think I´ve ever heard of ANY accidental shootings (kids or adults) in Korea.
Man, that wii gun looks friggin´ awesome. Wish I had one. I hope they don´t get banned because of this. It´s the entirely fault of the retarded stepfather who should be immediately convicted of manslaughter, if not murder, for leaving his firearm out in the open, loaded, whether there was a child around or not -- which there was. I will be extremely pissed if even one tiny bit of the blame goes toward the wii gun controller, as this child´s death was entirely the doing of the stepfather.
