High School Cancels Prom Because of Lesbian´s Request
Constance McMillen is like most teenagers who want to go to their prom with the date of their choice, only her date would have been a female and she wanted to wear a tuxedo. Her school however said that she could not do either of those things.
Last night the school board decided to cancel the prom after finding out from the ACLU that it would be against McMillen´s rights to ban same-sex dates. The mayor of Fulton, Paul Walker, said he backs the decision along with the town´s citizens.
There was mention of a private prom, which would mean that McMillen could be banned from it, but there is no proof of that happening yet. McMillen went back to school facing some hostility because her dad told her she had to face the students.
I think that the school board is disgusting and each one of the members should be recalled. The ignorance in homophobia is bad enough, but by handling the situation as they did they could very likely have put Miss McMillen in a dangerous position. Students that were looking forward to their Jr/Sr prom, especially girls that have already bought their expensive prom dresses, now instead of pretty pictures and dancing the night away they will probably be at the bowling alley that is the only things the kids there say is around for kids.
Two students, one in a dress and the other in a tux, is what proms are all about and just because the person wearing the tux has tits some old, conservative idiot has to determine that unless it is a FFM video he is watching online there dare not be a lesbian and her girlfriend dancing. I wonder if they go around during the dance and breaking up anyone who isn´t 1 boy and 1 girl dancing. Watch out for a group of girls dancing together because their dates are flat foots.

Oh yeah and stopping the prom and letting it be known it was because of *the lesbian* is in no way harming her education, safety or well-being.
DVB- I feel for the girl, if it was one of my girls and this happened damn straight I would be slapping a lawsuit. Hopefully the other students will stand behind her so the prom is back on AND to support her.

Just because you got angry at me on the 3-year-old story doesn´t mean you can give me a bad rating. The title is NOT misleading at all. She went to them asking if she could bring her girl friend and then the Feb 5th memo about no same-sex couples could go and then she asked them about her wearing a Tux and they said no. Once that happened and the ACLU informed them they could not refuse her requests the board met and decided to just cancel the prom period.
I am asking it be removed and I think you are being childish.

I don´t really care about your past stories, I just rate anything I see that deserves a rating (good or bad).
I rated it bad because your title can be interpreted as the Lesbian requesting the cancellation (which is what I thought in the first place).
I´m sure you´ve posted hundreds of news posts (some of which I probably rated positive or negative), I´m not sure why you´d bring up a three year old disagreement (which I´m not sure what about) into the mix.
a noble endeavor. If the student body wants to be angry at someone, they should be angry at those that actually caused the problem, the school board and the townspeople. Grow some balls like Constance did, walk out of class, make some signs and protest march through town. Show up at the next school board meeting in force and raise absolute hell. Gets the cops called, that will attract the media and get your voice heard. Blaming it on the victims is not the way to go. Holding Constance responsible is only going to show the world that you are a bunch of redneck, backward hicks like your parents. It´s time to move into the 21st century.
So like if a bunch of rednecks complained about a black couple then the black couple could be ejected? So much for teaching tolerance. I wonder how the ICSD reconciles their actions with it´s teaching civil rights all last month. I also wonder what there policy towards bullying looks like.
Because some Americans are Stupid. This school proves just that. If this ideology is from the Educators what do you really expect of those who are being brain washed?
If this was one of those third world extremist countries, she probably would have been arrested, tried as being a bad influence on other girls, stoned, and then burned...
First off so I can get this out of the way. Vant I didn´t say 3 years AGO I said the summary on the 3 year OLD and if it wasn´t pay back then I do apologize, it just came shortly after I replied to you on that summary.
Now on topic. Yes the US has a lot of growing to do in certain area´s. Yes most of it is somehow related to religion and ignorance that is the same major issues in other countries. The difference is here is our government doesn´t allow and approve of stoning and killing women based on what they wear or who they choose to hang out with or if someone is gay it doesn´t mean they are hanged. We have problems sure, but so does every country out there including the ones where the little anti-us posters live.
I know my country isn´t perfect, let alone anywhere close to it, which is why I will post stories that show how we have some ignorant people that really think male and females will put themselves through the hell they get for simply having been born attracted to the same sex.
I guess I shouldn´t be surprised when it is in someof the same areas that think mixed race marriages are still sinful. THIS kind of thinking is exactly why we need seperation of church and state in the US, otherwise the religious right(not saying normal religious people and yes there can be some)would have us all living with collars still around our necks and bathing suits that look like burkinis. Women wouldn´t have the right to vote, work(other than a nurse or teacher), go to college or live on her own.
Homosexuals are not doing anything TO you no matter how much you might believe so, all they want is the same thing we each do and that is to be happy, fall in love, work hard and live their lives with the very same freedoms as we all should have.
I wish the kids would get some balls or titanium ovaries and stick up for Constance, because if they don´t they are setting themselves up to be bullied by what they admit is an old money, old people, ultra conservative town where even the ignorant mayor thinks banning a teenager her prom(and everyone elses because the grown ups are scared)and a memory that is supposed to be the topping on the last year of "childhood"
