More than Cannabis, Coke and Hallucinogens Combined

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration produced a national survey with surprising results.

It found that children twelve years old are using inhalants much more than other illicit drugs.

More than marijuana, cocaine and hallucinogens combined, common household products now represent the most popular drug of choice.

  Now there´s a concept...

maybe, just maybe... the government is doing a bad job of raising its native sons... which government? all of them.
I say, we leave the parenting to the children´s parents. Yea... i think that would cool it with national drug behavior problems.

  like air freshener?

So huffing is the big thing with 12 year olds...nothing new there. Even I had a short "rush" phase of my life when I was young. Then I realized I was committing genocide against my brain cells and I stopped.

  .

Nothing surprising there.

Whats worrying though without better and safer drugs to use they´ll likely keep huffing on deodorant cans and glue.

Prohibition stops nothing just causes people to use even more dangerous substances.

  Scary

I made ether before but never huffed anything else really. I guess people would consider NO2 (whip its) huffing too. But this is a more frightening addiction. It will make you stupid.

This is a product of just say no. Its time to inform the people of what is out there & what it does from a scientific stand point.

http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/... Here is something that is very short & basic.

  Of course kids are sniffing!!

It´s hardly as though they have a spare £20 for a Quarter Oz of Resin is it? Solvents can be found under the kitchen sink - Free.

  yeah

didn´t put where this took place(Washington,D.C., U.S.)

but yeah, I never used inhalants. I was always nervous, I had a feeling somehow I would be that one freak case that would have a fatal reaction.

I never had an interest.

I don´t know many 12 year old cocaine addicts, but I´m surprised they didn´t check cigarettes.

  OLD NEWS

they´re called whippits and were heavily done in the 70´s as a result of the drug war.

  Agreed with above comments...

Just gotta reiterate what I saw in the comments above... you clamp down on marijuana and give people crazy sentences for possession, crack down on other drugs, and people are just going to use something that much more harmful to get high with like huffing gasoline of paint fumes. There will always be some poisonous substance on the shelves that will give people a "high" as it´s killing off their brain cells and poisoning them in the process. Prohibition has nothing to do with the safety or welfare of the citizens, it´s all about money and which firms will suffer financially if certain substances were to be legal.

  gasoline OR paint fumes...

Sorry, I´ve been huffing gas.

  by: spiggy   03/12/2010 04:50 PM
  Ah, shaddup.

The government´s stance on marijuana and cocaine are not effecting a 12 year olds access to those illegal drugs as much as some would like to think. It´s the fact that they´re 12, and it´s easier to abuse household products.

The average 12 year old probably doesn´t have a "connection" or a financial situation that allows for regular purchasing of a bag of dope, or some cocaine =P

Please stop interjecting logic into this conversation - we´re trying to bash the government here.

  Sudden Sniffing Syndrome

Just found this one from NBC, girl dies from inhaling Freon, which is odd because I thought it was phased out years ago. She must have had an old air conditioner in the house.
