Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome Kills Teen

Seventeen-year-old Amber Suri Talley has died from Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome due to inhaling Freon. She had been using inhalants for six months prior to the incident.

Amber was found dead with a garbage bag over her face to concentrate the fumes. The cause of death was cardiac arrest and asphyxiation.

Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome can occur the first time from inhalant abuse. One in five pupils in the United states has tried inhalants before he or she reaches the eighth grade, according the the NIPC.

  @Jane

the same reason why kids spin in circles, to alter ones state of mind.

I say we ban spinning, spinning is obviously the ultimate gateway drug, i would predict that most if not all drug users at some point spun as a child.

  altered states of mind

I think kids should be taught that altering ones mind in a safe manner like meditation.

Everything has risks, meditation is no exception, here are some adverse reactions that can be experienced: relaxation-induced anxiety and panic; paradoxical increases in tension; less motivation in life; boredom; pain; impaired reality testing; confusion and disorientation; feeling ´spaced out´; depression; increased negativity; being more judgmental; and, ironically, feeling addicted to meditation.

I don´t have any negative feelings towards meditation, my point is that something negative can be found for almost anything.
Now if Poppers were legal it´s quite possible the girl would have been sniffing them instead of Freon.
The problem is as our governments more closely regulate the relatively safe chemicals that are available people will term to more dangerous ones. Simply removing the drug doesn´t remove the demand for the effects, i can´t wait for Nutmeg use to become widespread, then you will have dead kids all over the place.

  Syndrome?

Why is it a syndrome? Huffing fumes is what caused it. It´s not a syndrome. IMO
Anyone who does this is asking to die.

ENOUGH TO BUY POT.

  by: thedeeder   03/13/2010 08:33 PM
  One of the main problems is....

you can buy Freon over the counter at any auto supply store but pot is illegal and you have to find a dealer. Freon is about $5, while pot is $50 a quarter Oz. So if you are a kid wanting to get high which is easier to find and cheaper to purchase and you don´t have to worry about getting busted with? ´Our´ laws have caused this child´s death. ´Our´ senseless prohibition is killing ´our´ children. ´We´ are guilty of murder. ´We´ can change this.
