Issue With Chinese Fluoride in Massachusetts

Fluoride imported from China has caused alarm with Department Of Public Works Director Rob Desmarais. Rob has temporarily discontinued the use of fluoride in the Amesbury water supply.

His concerns started after he attempted to mix the white powder with water and noticed that 40% of it will not dissolve.
He also states that residue clogs his machines and causes an irregular flow of fluoride in the water supply.

Fluoride has been imported from China since 2007 due to being the cheapest on the market. The fluoride is still being analyzed to figure out the exact contents of the residue. MWRA water users are not affected by the Chinese fluoride.

STOP USING FLUORIDE

this stuff is a poison, a toxic waste by-product sold as a miracle solution for teeth. it was part of the nazi´s scheme for world domination - yes really. they were going to control populations by drugging water supplies with various things, fluoride being one of them because it causes a docile like behavior. if they didn´t want populations to grow, they would add drugs that would cause sterility. if the population was becoming too hostile against their regime, they would add fluoride to make them more docile.

simple proof as to how horrible this stuff is - look at a tube of toothpaste. it will say if a child swallows more than the amount used to brush their teeth with you should call the poison control center.

fluoride = poison

  fluoride is poison

fluoride is poison, but I guess that the average person has too much fluoride induced brain damage to be able to add 1+1=2 in this case...

  Few Shout outs

#1 Idiots stop buying cheap s*** from China, it was clear years ago that they are intent on poisoning the people that buy their s***.

#2 Of course it is poisoning us, because it is a poison!

#3 Stop supporting companies that use China to make the product in the first place. Don´t bitch about someone shopping at Wal Mart for a toy when Fisher Price is already using China to poison...err make the toys.

  by: TaraB     03/13/2010 05:27 AM
  LOL @Tara.

It is finding all the companies using their products, we can not always be sure they are always using what they say they are.

i´m not sure if you know this or not but most of ther "chinese companies" that have been poisoning people are actually AMERICAN companies OPERATING in china... BIG difference... and they handle it differently too... if it was THEIR companies they´d put the guy in jail for a VERY long time or publically annkounce their execution (and in several cases of their own companies they have).

also ANYONE that supports flouride already being in the water shouldn´t be complaining about flouride being bought from china... as if there´s a safe way to poison the water supply (with a neurologicall chemical; very similar to my gripe about vaccines, except its extremely hard to avoid tainted waterm, as even bottled water has flouride in it now.

and lastly chinese products aren´t the problem... people wanting everything for the cheapest price possible is... myself included, my computer is made in china (including my top of the line HD webcam and my speaker system both of which are technically also made by american companies despite being a made in china product)... and i´ve got no complaints about it and its been about 2 years so far of running near constantly.... though it certianly wasn´t the cheapest computer, nor even the cheapest quad-core system at the time.

we should simply ban chinese people from America.

  Funny (not really)

After reading the above comments, I find this strange: the American military is currently running an ad campaign on the American Forces Network (AFN) about brushing and the importance of having children using fluoridated toothpaste. Just watched it moments ago. Again.

American capitalistic companies moved to China to satisfy their greed and immorality. They don´t care about the American people as long as they can make the biggest profit possible. They are turning China into a toxic waste dump and at the same time killing Americans. Modern American Capitalism is a cancer on the American people.

I´m glad I get my water bottled. The guy who sold it to us did a test on our water and he had this neat little tool that makes all the gunk in the water show up, our tap water turned dark brown/green from all the iron and crap in it so for $35 a month we get 7 bottles of super purified water brought in, no fluoride for us!

"we get 7 bottles of super purified water brought in, no fluoride for us! "

are you sure?... most bottled water is still fluoridated, i haven´t seen a north american domestically produced bottle of water that wasn´t fluoridated in the last 5 years, before then i never paid attention to it.

reverse osmosis machines are the seem to be the purest source of water these days... but they cost 1000-1500.... they litterally create water out of the humidity in the air and put it through filters (often times about 7 filters), they are supposed to yeild about 26 litres per day, and is probably cheaper than having water delivered after 2-4 years.

fluoride doesn´t evapourate, therefore unless you can make water from scratch via a huge vat of oxygen and hydrogen being combined at will, or gradually over time reverse osmosis is probably the safest, purest source of water around...

i only wish i could afford such a machine, as technically even bathing in the pubic water supply isn´t good for you (namely because of the chlorine, which among other things cause cancer of the kindey and liver, it causes acne, dry skin and dry hair, and you typically get more chlorine from dermal absorption and inhalation than from direct consumption; drinking), its better than not bathing but its still horrible for your health, another thing i would change if i could afford to.

  demonized china, or demonic china

It´s been a hard year, so I haven´t analyzed news patterns lately, but -

Do all chinese people evil?
Logic says no.
But the media says yes.

I bought a TagHuer clone on a backpacking holiday; needed a dress watch for the evening. It broke in two months. I wasn´t surprised. I even expected it.

Why are you angry at the chinese when you should be angry at cost cutting. I´d take you guys seriously if I didn´t see half of you at the local Walmarts at the weekends.

We get it from Sparklettes who give you the offer of having it put in or not. We get the water without fluoride added. Other than the naturally occurring fluoride in it, they don´t add any.

You said:
"...bathing in the pubic water supply isn´t good for you (namely because of the chlorine..."

Ummmm, I don´t think it´s the chlorine that´s the problem in a "pubic" water supply.

Just sayin´. ;-)
.

yes actually, in regards to bathing chlorine is the major problem in the water supply.

http://www.bidness.com/...

"One half of our daily chlorine exposure is from showering. Chlorine is not only absorbed through the skin, but also re-vaporized in the shower, inhaled into the lungs, and transferred directly into the blood system. In fact, the chlorine exposure from one shower is equal to an entire day´s amount of drinking the same water. Drinking filtered or bottled water only does half the job"

realistically it be more healthy to bath in piss treated water (which i think is what you were getting at) than chlorinated and furoidated water... piss doesn´t cause cancer or retardation, its just unpleasant...lol

there are MUCH safer water sanitation systems than are actaully used for public water supplies, except they have a much higher pricetag than just "fixing" the problem with cheap toxic chemicals.

Yeah, it was my piss-poor attempt at being funny. I giggle when I hear "pubic". But I´m not fond of ´golden´ showers. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I´m a senior Civil Engineering student at the University of Minnesota. My focus is on structural engineering, so I don´t claim to be an *expert* on water treatment. However, I´m probably more knowledgeable than the average person. If you don´t believe me on any point I would be completely willing to substantiate my comments with a reputable information source, except for my opinions of course. I was thinking of noting my opinions, but that seemed a little too much. I will also admit that I am completely ignorant of water treatment outside the US.

People are rightfully afraid of the quality of their water. However, people believe that water quality is much worse than it actually is. This is mostly told to them by people trying to sell them cleaner water, and spread through fear.

*Quote by Orthiad* "I´m glad I get my water bottled. The guy who sold it to us did a test on our water and he had this neat little tool that makes all the gunk in the water show up, our tap water turned dark brown/green from all the iron and crap in it so for $35 a month we get 7 bottles of super purified water brought in, no fluoride for us!"

That´s a very common scare tactic used by people selling water purification systems. What he was doing was precipitating the hardness in your water. Some of the hardness is certainly iron, but the vast majority is magnesium and calcium. Water hardness is not generally a health concern, because the hardness required to have negative side effects would taste so bad nobody would drink it. Water with zero hardness tastes bad as well. Which is why unless you buy distilled water, your bottled water will have similar results.

Chlorine is used to disinfect water in the US. It is very effective at killing pathogens and leaves a residual that prevents them from returning before the water reaches your tap. There is no other known way of killing the pathogens and leaving a residual. At least none that has been studied extensively enough to be considered safe, and cheap enough to be practical. If we did not disinfect our water, water-borne disease such as cholera would be much more common. Most of the people in the US that contract water-borne diseases contract them while travelling to a different country such as Mexico.

Chlorine is a general disinfectant which means it basically kills all living things including humans. Arguably, the greater threat are the chemicals that are created by chemical reactions with chlorine. The biggest disinfection by-product are trihalomethanes, which are suspected carcinogens. The argument is that chlorine helps us much more than it hurts us. Newer technology such as ozone and chloramines can help reduce the amount of disinfection by-products that we create, but haven´t been completely adopted yet.

I´m familiar with fluoride, but I´m ignorant as to the details on all the health concerns. I honestly can´t tell if everyone is serious about the mind control comments. I´m not going to say they´re ridiculous but I think someone should provide a reputable source. Fluoride was originally added to water before fluoride toothpaste was standard. Now that fluoride toothpaste is standard I feel that we should stop adding it to water. Then we can let anyone worried about the side effects choose the toothpaste they buy.

You can find legal limits for water contaminants in the US at http://www.epa.gov/... The limits were last updated in 1996. I think its about time to update the list taking into account new technology. Of course if we give more people cancer we can put our new medical reform to good use.

So in short, yeah there is bad stuff in our water but except for the unlucky people its mostly safe, lol. The problem is how much money are we willing to spend to get so much benefit. As with most engineering we have to put a price tag on people´s health and their lives, because few people would honestly be willing to spend all their resources on a high probability that one less person would get cancer.
