Pope John Paul II called him "an efficacious guide to youth," but Catholic priest Marcial Maciel has reportedly abused young seminarians and his own children.
A corresponding lawsuit was filed today by a man in Connecticut who says he is Maciel´s son. Raul Gonzalez, 30, claims that he thought his father had another job until he saw a picture of the priest in a 1997 magazine.
The article in the magazine was about his father and allegations of sexual abuse. The Legion of Christ has already confirmed that the priest has at least one child. Father Marcial Maciel was forced to leave the Legion of Christ in 2006.
