Edvard Munch´s Madonna Print Sells for Record Sum

Edvard Munch´s Madonna has been sold for £1.25 million, which makes it the most expensive picture to be sold in the UK and the second most expensive print to be sold in the world.

The print had been estimated between £500,000 and £700,000 before a private buyer from the US paid the record sum for it. The artwork is signed and dated 1895 but Munch has reworked it several times until 1902.
