EU: An agreement struck between phone manufacturers including TI, Qualcomm, Apple, TCT Mobile, Huawei Technologies, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LGE, NEC, Nokia, and RIM means that most mobile phones will have interchangeable chargers from next year.
The standardisation is expected to reduce electronic waste and make finding a charger to recharge a phone far more convenient for consumers. The charger will work with any phone that has a USB port.
"How cool is that? This will make a lot of people extremely happy," said Dennis Abbot, an European Union spokesperson.
