Last US Combat Troops Leave Iraq

US troops crossed into Kuwait Thursday morning ending a 7 1/2 year war that saw defeat and termination of the Saddam Hussein regime leaving 4,400 Americans and thousands of Iraqis dead.

NBC video showed the last soldiers boarding vehicles as the gates closed behind them. The exit described by a spokesman for State Department as "an historic moment".

The White House website had first declared it as "end of Combat in Iraq" before backtracking, and noted that the official end of combat operations is Aug 31. The spokesman added that it was the end of the war and not the work that is left to do Iraq.

What about an option for ´Never because the US´ interests in Iraq will never dwindle enough for the military to totally leave´?

  Not all troops have left

Only combat troops but there are still a huge ammount of US troops there to train the local military. You can bet your sweet ass that these troops will become combat troops very soon.

I thought about that, but then we´ll consider that option covered under "5 or more years"

I was reading on the BBCs site that 50,000 US troops are still there and are still armed. However They´re only to use their Weapons in Self Defence or when the Iraqi Government asks them to.......!! Read into that what you will, I´m not commenting :P

Haha. Everyone in theater is armed. It´s a war zone.

I´m armed. I´m not a soldier or combatant though.
