Russian President Medvedev Fires Moscow Mayor

Russia´s president Dmitry Medvedev has reportedly fired Moscow´s mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

The 74-year-old had served as mayor for 18 years. Nevertheless, he had to leave because he "had lost the trust of the president of the Russian Federation", a presidential decree confirmed.

The mayor openly criticized the Kremlin and complained of being dropped by the party.
