Chicago: Woman Dressed as Silk Spectre Falls to Her Death

Megan Duskey, 23, an early childhood special education teacher plummeted 4 floors to her death after her attempt to slide down a banister at a hotel went wrong.

She was sitting on the rail and attempted to slide down when she lost her balance and fell from the mezzanine level to the basement and landed on her back.

It appears that alcohol was not a major factor in the accident.

  Hmmm

Trying to slide down a banister 4 floors up? okay, its understandable trying to slide down the banister from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor, although it is pretty stupid anyway, but 4 floors up? wow, somethings going on there

  As

for me i don´t dare to look down from the fourth floor because i have a strong acrophobia.

  This is tragic

It may seem like something crazy that lead to this accident, but actually there are a lot of places in chicago that you can accidentally kill yourself in.
In fact, i´ve heard of more than one accident at places where i´ve said to friends that it would be easy to fall off. They´ve shared a story or two of someone actually dying at these places.

The thing is, i don´t remember living in other cities where these many stories abound.

  Would you???

Would you let one of your special ed students do it??? THEN MAYBE *YOU* SHOULDN´T EITHER!!! DUH!!!

Goodbye Earth, ... Hello Darwin!!!

  I like..

how the article starts out with ´teacher teacher´.. Someone at that paper needs a lesson in editing..
Also, I am presuming she tried sliding down ´side sadle´. She could have prevented her own death by putting one leg on each side of the railing and sliding down that way... Ok, everyone line up to put in your own bad pun after that comment!
And yes, good-bye special ed, hello Darwin!

You´re right! If only she wrapped one leg around each side of me.... sorry got sidetracked. And WOW was she so very, very, attractive. http://thesop.org/...

And in good-taste mode, I feel for her friends and family, a very tragic and sad accident indeed :(.

  well, at least

she didn´t have to change when she crossed over.

Wow, that was uncharacteristically poetic of you.

(Until I typed it I never noticed how big a word uncharacteristically was)

  appalled

I cannot believe the comments regarding this story. She was someone´s daughter/sister/friend. How dare you poke fun at her conduct and profession. Those of you making the rude comments must not have any family or friends. Think about how awful it would be to lose someone in an accident of this sort. Now imagine someone poking fun at her on a public online forum. You disgust me.

  I THOUGHT

that i would not have to be the one to say it - She made a Spectre of herself.

Ordinarily this is where I´d say something just like that but I´ve learned that people, even good people, occasionally are going to say some pretty crass things. I´m tired of trying to be the moral mother hen on stories like this. I usually just wind up getting more and more upset as the thread goes on. Just let their apathy be their problem. It´s impossible to teach morality in this medium.

Thanks, you are right.

  I find it difficult

to sympathize with the terminally stupid. Stupid gets what stupid deserves. Death is not that big a deal anyway. It´s only the separation from the body. It´s likely that karma was teaching her a lesson.

You´re not entirely wrong but Karma teaches lessons more on morality than on stupidity. Plus, the dead learn very little.
