US Fixes Sights On Nations Opposing GM Crops

One of the latest WikiLeaks cable releases shows that US has a policy of waging trade war against countries that oppose genetically modified crops. In late 2007, France had moved to ban a GM corn strain from Monsanto.

The US embassy in Paris had advised the US government to create a list of opposing countries to "cause some pain across the EU." Spain and the US had worked closely to prevent the strengthening of biotechnology laws in the EU.

The Vatican was lobbied extensively to change the pope´s stance and influence a large segment of the population in the EU and developing countries. US diplomats pushed GM crops “as a strategic government and commercial imperative” on a global scale.

	of who runs our government, Monsanto. This is frightening. Now we know how the recent "Food Safety" Bill just got passed. The assault on the small farmers has begun.

	With those crops
	they´re a one shot deal... They grow once and they´re dead...very bad You can´t regrow from new seeds. This would mean strict control over food supply, thats a bad thing.

	who are the terrorists? Seems to me that to "cause some pain across the EU." would be a terrorist act. Can´t the US gov just stay within its own borders and leave the rest of the world alone? Not everyone wants to be or live like an American. Much less bullied by it. The breaking point is closer than you think!

	You do realize farmers have been "changing natures source code" since they learned how to plant crops right? Farmers breed and cross breed all crops. There isn´t any strain of any plant we eat en masse that is the same as it was prior to man growing it. GM crops (well the ones that you can reseed anyway) aren´t evil or bad, or unhealthy at all. They´ve gone through yeeeeaaaaars of rigorous testing to be allowed to be eaten by us. They´re 100% healthy, and taste better than non GM crops The US has some of the highest food standards on the planet. I forget his name, but one of the cofounders of greenpeace (who is no longer with them) can be quoted as saying that GM crops are fine (see Penn and teller: Bullshit) Now monsanto making plants that can´t be reseeded IS bad, but I read somewhere (I think cracked.com) that they were told they couldn´t do that anymore, so instead locked the farmers into strict contracts whereby they must purchase monsanto seeds every season.

	It is not just Monsanto... They are certainly a big player... If you want to get roster of the corporations that run the US... Look no further than the US Chamber of Commerce - The largest lobbyist group in the country. Their HQ is even (pretty much) right across the street from the White house in DC. 	There is a HUGE difference between selective breeding and injecting trout DNA into corn. But that is not why Monsanto is evil. Monsanto is evil because they are trying to own food. ALL FOOD! As if it were electricity to be dispensed at a marketable rate. Monsanto is the most disgusting abomination that has ever existed. Bar none.

	Tested for years? By who? The same people trying to control the food supply. Do you really believe that changing the molecular structure of organisms and then ingesting them poses no risk or threat to your health? I bet you think Pharmaceuticals are safe too!

	GM crops vs cross breeding
	With cross breeding, the results produced are only what nature allows - you can´t cross breed a dog with a cow - whereas with GM the results are things that could never happen naturally. The argument of cross breeding being the same as genetic manipulation is in my opinion, a very simple minded one.
