According to South Korean newspapers, Kim Jong-un, the future successor of Kim Jung-Il, has begun a purge of party members to secure his place on the North Korean throne. Allegedly 200 high party officials have been executed or imprisoned.
Most of the officials targeted are linked to Jang Song-taek, Il’s brother-in-law, charged with making high level appointments and Okuk-ryol of the National Defense Commission.
The executions seem to be timed to the announcement of Kim Jong-un’s succession by his father. Notice has been given that anyone caught using a Chinese cell phone or trading in US dollars would be executed.
