2000 US Marines Invade Libya

2,200 members of the 26th MEU Marines Unit have been reassigned to stations in Ajdubiyah Libya. The Marines have been tasked with protecting civilians in the city.

The Marine unit was nearing the ends of its deployment in the Mediterranean and will soon be replaced by the 22nd MEU currently stationed at Camp Lejeune.

Qadhafi’s military has been severely hampered by repeated British AV-88 Harrier strikes which should allow the Marines some breathing room in protecting the city.

ASSESS this news: BLOCK this news. Reason:
I read a news story this morning that said we were never going to invade Libya with ground troops.. Must´ve been on FoxNews

  was the source
from obama?? if so did he lie again???
  by: shannon853   03/26/2011 02:00 AM
Yeah, it´s probably not wise to use a media source to predict what the military will or will not do.

If you do... well, it wouldn´t be the news sources fault =P

Ya I hear that. Though, I think if we sent in 2k troops, and so did like 10 other countries, then it would be a better overall show of global force and Ghad might actually take notice.

Anyone heard word on some of the "inner circle of the Ghaddafi regime" seeking asylum?
  by: Rokkumon   03/26/2011 04:23 AM
Apparently you can´t use United Nations mandates either...

Oh wait, we found that out a long time ago.

  I feel like I dodged a bullet
Almost joined to start a career into mechanical engineering to work my way up to robotics. I´m glad I didn´t because it would suck to be forced into doing that.

Since more Marines are there would this be to make more of a presence? What is at task to protect the civilians?

I just hope Gaddafi whose poor choices that forced this situation to happen to finally make the right choice & stand down.

& anyone´s thought on Italy from all this? They look to have something at stake here, & it looks like they too will get their just desserts.

  How unsurprising
The US loves to invade various countries whose leaders it does not like.

  @Rokk, jamesmc
Yeah, that´s true.

To both of you.

  Is this for real?
Not a slight on you valk at all, I love your attitude and submissions, but I haven´t found this article anywhere but onenewsnow, which I´d admittedly not heard of previously.

I´d figure something of this magnitude would be all over CNN/BBC but there´s nothing I can see on the front pages..

It either means someone got their circuits crossed or it´s simply not in the media´s agenda to emphasize the fact that our troops are beginning yet another misguided experiment...

I´m two months from being out of my inactive reserve commitment.. I swear to god if something kicks off and I get called back im going to be PISSED. :S

  the last paragraph should read
the last paragraph should read ..

Qadhafi’s military has been severely assaulted by the British war invasion, which allowed the US Marines complete takeover of a city that was already destroyed by the invasion attack, establishing a base for full throttle attack .. :-D

dammm .. no reason for the war :-/
  by: key2000     03/27/2011 09:37 AM
It is my opinion that my money ought not to be used on some Libyan affair. Now there will be a civil war in Libya. This has nothing to do with "civilians," the west just wants to destroy Gaddhafi. I want OUR billion dollars back and in our community helping our people with our social ills. If you feel like going into poverty on some "new world order" scheme of global "democracy," killing the people you disagree with, installing the figureheads you like, you do that.

  Slight error
We (the British) have not sent any harriers to Libya. We sent tornados. Any harriers in Libya would probably belong to the USMC.

  Absolute rubbish !!
There are NO US Marines on Libyan soil, far less "2000 Invading" !! If you read the first source, it merely states that 2200 Camp Lejeune Marines are on board USS Kearsarge AT SEA and will take part in operations against Libya AT SEA. The idiotic site twisted this into "Marines on ground in Libya". Reposting of this crap merely spreads disinformation, and many will simply believe it - as exhibited in the comments above. There are NO COALITION FORCES ON THE GROUND IN LIBYA (except for possibly small numbers of special forces / advisors to the rebels).

  The 2000 Marines
Wow, that brings back memories -- what a dream team, and who could forget that Cinderella season they had back in 2000!

Funny thing is, you look at the recent team photo, 11 years later, and they´ve hardly changed. I bet they could go out and win another title right now! :)

  @anenginer: "special forces / advisors"?
assassins, interrogators and spooks?
  by: redstain   03/27/2011 06:49 PM
i wasnt talking about a civil war. and do you know why they want to destroy him? if obama was killing people for his amusement id want him dead too!
  by: groomsy     03/28/2011 12:56 AM
There will be a civil war whether you´re talking about one or not, because of this bombing. They want to destroy Gaddhafi because it fits their plan to change the government in their favour. Now I´ve just repeated myself in response to your incoherent messages about "killing for amusement" and "being killed for no reason." Right.
