Superman Fed Up With Federal Government: Renounces U.S. Citizenship

The fictional caped-crusader renounced his U.S. citizenship in the 900th issue of Action Comics after a brawl with the federal government. It’s unknown if Superman will retain his motto, "truth, justice and the American way".

"Besides being riddled with a blatant lack of patriotism, and respect for our country, Superman´s current creators are belittling the United States as a whole," said Angie Meyer, a Hollywood publicist.

Wired blogger Scott Thill wrote: "The genius of Superman is that he belongs to everyone, for the dual purposes of peace and protection. He’s above ephemeral geopolitics and nationalist concerns, a universal agent unlike any other found in pop culture."

Superman´s just upset because he can´t be President - he wasn´t born here.

  I can sympathise

with the man of steel. The idea of American exceptionalism was valid only insofar as America upheld exceptional principles.

We are not entitled to respect, admiration and privilege simply by virtue of being born within certain borders. We can only hope to earn these accolades through integrity.

It starts with holding ourselves to higher standards, with leading by example rather than force and intimidation. This standard applies to states as well as individuals.

  Just for clarification...

When I said, "Lex already is President", that wasn´t a reference to Obama.

In the "Superman world", Lex was voted in as president of the USA. I don´t keep up with comics, and I don´t know how that happened. My son and I watched a Superman/Batman video on Netflix, recently, and Lex was President in the Superman dimension.

  Superman´s loyalty

When you don´t like outcome of democracy forget about working within the system to peacefully push change, instead take your ball and go home.

Sounds like what MLK, Gandhi, and the big J were all about.

your correct and it if one has read his comics, notes he never applied for citizenship in the first place. so, how does one renounce citizenship to a country you never were a legal citizen of?
