The fictional caped-crusader renounced his U.S. citizenship in the 900th issue of Action Comics after a brawl with the federal government. It’s unknown if Superman will retain his motto, "truth, justice and the American way".
"Besides being riddled with a blatant lack of patriotism, and respect for our country, Superman´s current creators are belittling the United States as a whole," said Angie Meyer, a Hollywood publicist.
Wired blogger Scott Thill wrote: "The genius of Superman is that he belongs to everyone, for the dual purposes of peace and protection. He’s above ephemeral geopolitics and nationalist concerns, a universal agent unlike any other found in pop culture."
