Texas: Boy, 5, Shoots Younger Brother, 4

In a Victoria County home, a four year boy had been shot in the stomach. This happened when his older brother, 5, was playing with a gun. All of this happened on Wednesday, and authorities are still investigating the incident.

Authorities said that the parents were home at the time of shooting, but left the children unsupervised. After the shooting the parents drove to a nearby store to meet paramedics, who rushed their son to the hospital.

The four-year-old died from his injuries. No names have been released.

Just One of those things that Happens

When you mix guns and kids.

It is interesting to me that we give kids toy guns then try to tell them that guns aren´t toys.

Guns ARE toys.

  :( Horrible

Disturbing stuff..
Imagine now what that 5 year old will go through. At such a young age accidentally killing your younger brother and the shit this kid is gonna get from his family and people alike..

I´ve been saying this a lot lately.

"I wonder what his Parents must be like?"

Probably not that different from anyone else who owns guns.

Unfortunately.

Generalities are scarely true in all situations. A responsible gun owner would ensure to have a gun safe and have childproof locks on all their guns and of course keep both out of the main living space of their children. However, these parents were definately highly irresponsible gun owners and its their fault their youngest child is dead.

The media does not cover news on responsible parents who also own guns since no one gets hurt. So its very easy to figure that every gun owner is irresponsible since thats all we hear on the news. But the news also depicts stories about robbies and thefts. So I guess that means that every 20´s something black & mexican male is a drug addict who will steel my car since thats all I hear on the news.

There´s a saying among people in the media. "If it bleeds it leads."
If 60 minutes or 20/20 wanted to do the country a solid they´d do a program spotlighting families who do it right. Myself I own one pump action 12 gauge. I don´t have a trigger lock so I keep the shells hidden in a lock box.

  I have taught my children.

To respect them, they have gone with me to the range, fired them, and they know what to do and not to do with them. I keep my guns separate from my ammunition with exception to one handgun, by the bed, kids know where it is and not to touch it. I have never once had any issue with it.

In large the problem with gun safety is lack of education, pretty much any one that deals with this type of accident from any angle will tell you the problem is not completely restriction of access.

I think it is funny how some people will teach their children not to run with scissors because they could hurt themselves, but not what a gun is and how to properly respect it.

Guns are no more dangerous than any other weapon in capable or uneducated hands, they are simply more effective and news worthy.

Point and case, "5yo boy accidentally knocks 4yo brother out of tree, 4yo dies from injuries..." not likely to make it past a local newspaper, this story will go national because it involves a gun and stirs debate.
