NASA Gives Up Attempts to Reestablish Contact to Mars Rover Spirit

NASA is about to stop trying to reestablish a connection to the Mars Rover Spirit. The last contact was recorded on March 22.

It was guessed that Spirit might reawake if the solar energy increased. However, all communication efforts were useless.
Spirit reached Mars on Jan 3, 2004. Its twin, Opportunity, is still operating on Mars.

"We´re now transitioning assets to support the November launch of our next generation Mars rover, Curiosity," NASA´s program executive for solar system exploration said.
