The third part of the "Transformers" series, called "Dark of the Moon", hit cinemas last weekend and posted the best opening weekend in the US in 2011. The film gained $97.4 million in the first three days.
According to the production company, 62 percent of the cinemagoers on the opening weekend were men and 55% were younger than 25.
Meanwhile, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", which previously held the record of the best opening weekend 2011 with a gain of $90.2 million in the first three days, has reached $1 billion worldwide.
