Woman Threatened With Jail for Growing Front-Yard Vegetable Garden
Julie Bass of Oak Park, Michigan decided to grow a vegetable garden in her front yard after it was torn up during repair work to replace a sewer line. For that, she´s been charged with a misdemeanor and could face 93 days in jail.
A complaining neighbor called the city, which said Bass´s garden (five large planters containing cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, basil and cucumbers) isn´t suitable for the front yard according to city code.
While the city maintains that most residents don´t think it´s appropriate, some of Bass´s neighbors back her. She´s scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on July 26.
america where you have freedom of choice (as long as it pleases the government!)it says the plants are in planters, not in the ground! if that is true, she has not planted against city ordences!
have brought this on themselves. What did they expect from big government full of retarded rules/regulations, need to fund the beast somehow
They were fooled into thinking there is something as a free lunch, highly expect more of your freedoms to go away, majority are already gone, they are just not aware yet.
You cant have freedom and big government at the same time, so dont bitch about this stuff if you demand government run services
But i gaurantee there is a "free lunch" in there the citizen believe they are getting, so even at municipal level it would be concidered big government.
If anybody has experience in balance sheets, they understand nothing is free, ever.
Keep living in wonderland, do you still believe in sant claus?
Im going to be on you like white on rice, your my new pet project :D everything we say will become true, and i will explain why, while you look lost bitching while not understanding the fundemental problem.
Like i said, you will see some ridiculous stuff in the future, you will lose a little piece of freedom everyday
... this all stems from a misguided attempt to "protect" property rights.
This code was enacted, no doubt, on behalf of fussy homeowners who believe the sight of anything not strictly conventional in their neighborhood hurts the resale value of their homes.
Who charged her? The cops or the city council? She does have every right in the book to face her accuser. I´d request that upfront at the hearing. This is similar to HOA nazism, just way worse. I see T-Bagger´s point of view, he is correct, from an out of the box perspective. Those of you still living in the box.... Your day will come. -- Mfan

Do you see what I mean about regulations? It twists things and takes away from peoples rights, no matter how good-intentioned they seem to be.
