By the end of 2011, Walgreens will have electric car chargers at 800 of its stores in the United States, and as many as one-third of those could be the Level 3 "fast chargers" that can recharge a car to 80 percent in 30 minutes.
At 60 locations in Chicago and Texas, installations are already under way. Charging stations are also coming to stores in Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C.
Walgreens quoted a Department of Energy figure stating that 40 percent of U.S. public car charging stations will be at a Walgreens location by the time the roll-out is complete.
