Matt Damon Blasts Reason TV Reporter Over Teacher Tenure

A question from a reporter for the libertarian Reason TV website prompted a tense exchange with actor Matt Damon over whether tenured teachers, who have more job security, have less incentive to work hard.

"You think job insecurity makes me work hard?" Damon said. "A teacher wants to teach. Why else would you take a shitty salary and really long hours and do that job unless you really love to do it?"

Damon was asked by his mother, an expert on child development, to speak at the Save Our Schools rally, a grassroots effort to protest the Obama administration´s education policies, standardized testing and No Child Left Behind.

ASSESS this news: BLOCK this news. Reason:
Libertarians have declared war on knowledge. Talk about your neanderthals. They are the worst of the Republican scum.

  lol, notice Damon´s reply
is parallel to Lurker´s...

"Well...uh...maybe you´re a shitty camera-man!"

Can´t bring logic to a name-calling fight.

I think Damon did a lot more than call the reporter for the laughably-named "Reason" TV a name (again, I just *love* how Ron Paul fans try to hijack words like "reason" and "liberty").

He pointed out a flaw in the reasoning of the reporter and indeed of many people -- the ridiculous idea that the type of teacher who earns tenure is the type of teacher who slacks off.

  @ jenkie
Libertarians Hate Teachers because teachers posses/give knowledge and you cant possess knowledge and still be gullible enough to be Guided by the Pulpits.

Teacher don´t do it for the money!! I work for the Education department the Whole Libertarian argument is made up around a completely false set of assumptions, they assume everyone is a greedy and money obsessed as themselves. Most Teacher are more then Smart enough to Get a better paying job, Most Jobs have half the stress for twice the pay (I am NOT a teacher). People become teachers Despite the poor money not because of it. Teachers Become Teacher Generally because they love Knowledge and sharing knowledge.

and with regards to Using Logic Like above, It is really pointless because; You believe in Invisible Sky Giant, You are insane.
Logic Fails to convince you because you live in an Illogical Dream World Where some Giant Man lives above the Clouds And looks after things. He made us and evolution doesn´t exist even though half our modern medicine is based on acceptance of evolution meaning we can test on Rats, evolve harmless virus to use as vaccines. Genome map, pre-birth disease discovery, hereditary testing. All of Which require Evolution and IF what the bible said was true would NOT work.
Libertarians Are SCUM they are a de-evolution of mankind that strives to live in some caveman invented fairy tale rather than the real world! their very existence is to the detriment of the Human Genome. And You are hypocrites that go against the Very teaching of you Invisible Sky giant that you claim will burn you for all eternity after you die if you don´t listen to.

Sorry to interrupt your string of baseless assumptions -

I´m what most call an atheist.

So based on your simplified generalization, politicians must be such because power? But wait, you´re fine with that?

When one´s reasoning is so obviously puerile, it behooves one not to place it so publicly on display.

Whether you find merit in the argument or not, most libertarians believe that allowing a free market in education would not only benefit the student with a higher quality education, but also reward the teachers with a far more competitive pay scale. while addressing the immediate community´s vested interest in acceptable standards.

Saying that advocates of Liberty hate teachers and declare war on knowledge is akin to saying "they attack us cause we´re free", or proclaiming anti-war sentiment as hatred for the troops.

It´s simply ridiculous, and does no credit to anything you think you represent.

  Teachers are perfect.
There are absolutely no bad ones.

time to cherrypick evocative monsters and victims
No one believes teachers are saints.

This is clearly an attempt to generalize them to set them up as a target for propaganda.

After this backlash, wait for the machiavellis fish out:
- teachers supporting the KKK
- convicted child molesters
- favours and pressure on college boards

And if that doesn´t work; allow the campaign to steep into the public´s psyche, and capitalize on it when they try again in a decade.

Surprisingly this sh** works on 30-somethings who are old enough to remember and know better.

  @jenkie: this is clearly drive-by baiting/trolling
OP is about Celebrity (publicly acknowledged left-leaning one) vs. Troll (obviously baiting him).

Is this sudden hatred of tenured lecturers from something you´ve experienced in your youth, or a partisan knee-jerk reaction?

Whatever your opinions are, you must know this is an orchestrated trap on an unsuspecting celebrity, just so they could tear it to shreds on the next day´s papers. Let the troll reporter try that interview question on a board of governor or political analyst; the Reason TV crew would sink without a trace, let alone have anything they´d want to review the next day.

You get corrupt individuals and institutions. Yes look at politicians, police, etc. But this is a policically motivated attack on people identified (rightly or wrongly) as free-thinkers. Planned by machiavellis. And carried out by ambitious, shock-jock pawns.
