61-Year-Old Woman Wants to Swim From Cuba to Florida in 60 Hours

Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad jumped into the sea yesterday to swim 100 miles from Havana to Key West, Florida.

If everything goes as planned and the 61-year-old arrives in the Florida Keys in 60 hours, she will be the first one ever to swim across without a shark cage. Instead, divers and electric shields are used to frighten off sharks.

In 1987 Nyad already attempted to cross the Florida Straits but was forced to stop due to strong sea currents.
