More Unmarried Couples Are Having Babies
 

The percentage of babies born to unmarried couples who are living together is on the rise, government figures show.

27 percent of births between 2003 and 2010 were to unmarried partners - that´s a threefold increase from 1985 where only 9 percent where births outside of marriage.

Kelly Musick, a sociologist, also noticed women with more education starting to have children without being married. The average age at first birth is now 23 for women and 25 for men.

Just because people don´t say it doesn´t mean we don´t think it.

Freedom of choice is not freedom of consequenses. Your right though, it´s not the childs fault and they shouldn´t be targeted doesn´t mean the parents shouldn´t be. but that raises other issues as long as the church has any say what so ever in marriage and some unions are not legally recognised there are plenty or reason to obstane from marriage.

the USA has different dynamic as you have virtually no social security, here in Australia single mothers can claim a pension so we have the issue of rednecks (we call them bogans) having half a dozen kids (often to different fathers) with neither parent working and has no intention of working and in the worse cases spend the money that is supposed to go on the kids on Alcohol and smokes.

as more of a nation of single mothers than a nation of unmarried couples. I know of a lot of kids that were born to unmarried couples but most end up being kids to a single mom in the long run.

Which ultimately is the larger problem. We have an entire nation of kids that are growing up fatherless.

I would wager that this is part of the reason why the recent generation of boys are so downright douchy and sniveling little babies. They are more feminine that previous generations. Not to mention they have no concepts of responsibility and what it means to be a man. Plus add to this the fact that government thinks everyone deserves a gold star for even trying, we have a pretty sorry lot on our hands.

Restoring the family unit is something we need badly. However I do not believe this is something government should have a role in. All the social conservatives that want to shove their flavors of morality onto us would probably be even worse than what we have now.

Personally I think that western society in general is just screwed up and broken and in need of serious repair.
