A 20-year-old panda reportedly gave birth to the Chengdu Giant Panda Protection and Research Center“s first cub of the year on the first day of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The mother was at an advanced maternal age as the average lifespan of pandas for the endangered animals is 25 years.
Mother and cub both were in healthy conditions, veterinarians at the research center in the Sichuan province, China said.
