Nevada May Tax Prostitutes

Nevada is looking at a $704 million dollar deficit and now has to find new ways to make up for the lost revenue. Nevada has no state income tax and sales tax revenues off tourism has been it major revenue source. Now it sees a new source to hit

Nevada legislators are calling for taxes on its legal brothels. Nevada is the only state in the Union which allows prostitution. Currently, prostitutes only have to worry about federal and county taxes.

If the Governor's plan passes, they would see a 7.3 percent tax. An estimated 365,000 sex acts occur in Nevada's 28 brothels a year. Opponents of prostitution say such a tax sanctions these acts. Brothel owners and prostitutes call it an unfair tax.

You gotta laught at the idea.
 A sales tax with sex.

Actually, that we've stooped so low as a society is more depressing than funny.

  Inaccurate story.
Quote from shortnews story: An estimated 365,000 sex acts occur in Nevada's 28 brothels a day.

Quote from yahoo (souce) story: The state Health Division estimates 365,000 sex acts are performed in Nevada's brothels annually, or 1,000 a day.

Thank you deathlives. I should hire you as a checker! But remember an inaccurate fact or typo does not make the whole story null and void.

Not such a bad idea if...
 ... they legalise prostitution.

For example, prostitution is legal in Belgium and the Netherlands. Pimping, on the other hand, isn't.

Most pimps use girls in a cruel way and make it difficult for them to leave (without suffering the consequences). Competitions between pimps create mafia-like scenarios that we all love to read about.

Now by legalising prostitution, taxing prostitutes and prosecuting pimps, the state itself becomes the pimp.

I guess it's a question of choice, but the world's oldest profession loses a lot of its technical disadvantages (ghettos, mafia...) with such a combination of laws. Some cynics might say that the concerned states want more money, but personally I prefer to know that the girls (whom I will never blame/accuse for their profession) work in better conditions.
